Ben grew up around the law, son of local attorney Steve Watkins. Ben and Steve practiced law together, sharing experience and best practices, after Ben passed the Bar Exam in 2009 until Steve’s retirement at the end of 2022. Throughout Ben’s career, 90% or more of his work has been in the areas of estate and tax planning and probate and trust administration, two areas we consider “sibling” practices because of their relatedness and the way experience in each benefits the other. Ben has agreed to represent clients in other areas of law in part because of the tangential benefit the experiences would bring to estate planning and probate administration, with successful representation in areas of adult and minor guardianship, divorce, eviction, real estate, and business planning. During law school, Ben began attending the Estate Planning Council of Metro Louisville meeting as a guest to meet the legal community and benefit from the lectures. Now, Ben is a long-time member of the Council and currently serves as a member of the Board.

Whether you want to learn about inheritance, estate, and capital gains tax planning, protect a family with a comprehensive estate plan, discover whether modern law permits significant tax savings for an old family trust, or are feeling the added anguish of legal uncertainty after losing a loved one, Ben is prepared to use his experience and knowledge to give you the best possible guidance and results.
